“What was taught, was that the truth?”
We’ve all read history since childhood—many times, over and over again. I’ve seen some stories on the big screen, others on the small screen, but what if one day you were told that the history books taught you were only half true… or maybe a complete lie?
“His Story Of Itihaas” is one such film that scrapes away these layers of history to bring out the truth that was either suppressed or altered. The film will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025 and stars Subodh Bhave, a well-known and respected actor in Marathi cinema, in the lead role.
What is the story?
This is the story of Namit, a physics teacher, who notices many things in his daughter’s history book that are either incomplete or have been tampered with.
As he researches, one by one the truths that shock him are revealed—the truth of Jodha-Akbar, the reality of Tipu Sultan, the real origin of caste and the mind games played by the Britishers.
The film shows how history was twisted to suit political agendas, and the genocides of the Mughal rulers were ignored. The film is inspired by the book “Brainwashed Republic” (Author: Neeraj Atri) based on the same issue, which shows how biased and politically motivated the history taught in our education system has been.
These are not just movies, they are an idea… a question
The film makes you think:
- Was the history we read entirely true?
- Are we ourselves removed from our own culture and identity?
- Were our roots deliberately erased?
“His Story Of Itihaas” takes up a serious and sensitive subject about which different communities may have their own views. But it is important that it is talked about, debated, and eyes are opened.
Performance and Making
- Subodh Bhave’s performance is the backbone of this film. His character is straightforward but emotional. One particular scene where they find themselves in front of so-called historians—that scene is powerful and memorable.
- Akanksha Pandey has also given an excellent performance.
- The making of the film has been kept very basic so that even the common audience can easily understand it.
- There are just two songs in the film—one in the middle that moves the story forward and one at the end.
Public reaction and controversy over the film
- People who liked movies like “The Kashmir Files” will definitely like this movie too.
- The film is even being called “revolutionary” because it mirrors the brainwashed population.
- Some are calling it a “Nationalist” film, others an “eye opener.”
The most surprising thing is that the film was not released in many cities or just a show, in a theatre, like what happened in Nagpur. This also raises a question in itself, doesn’t anyone want these truths to come out to everyone?
Can these movies watch with kids?
Yes, but this movie is a bit serious, so it would be better if people in the 16+ age group, especially those who are conscious about education, society and history, must watch it. These films can also be a medium to make children aware.
