Netflix’s new web series “The Royals” is here, but the question is, is it really royal or is it just named so?
Hello friends! Today we are talking about that web series, after watching which it seems that not only money but also brain is being burnt on Netflix – the name is The Royals.
Basic plot of the series:
The story is of Sophia Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), who runs a hospitality startup named “Work Potate”. Her new service “Royal BnB” dreams of a place where common people stay in the palaces of kings. To fulfill this dream, she reaches Moti Bagh Palace of Morpur, where the Maharaja is Aviraj Singh (Ishaan Khattar).
Now imagine, the palace is about to fall but there is a diamond necklace around the neck, the palace has to be rented out to start the hotel but the Nawabi style does not diminish. In the first 10 minutes itself, the lead characters go through the beach, bed and then breakup.
Is there actually a series?
Watching the trailer, it seemed like an interesting royal family drama, but in reality, it is a high-end, high-production version of Ekta Kapoor’s “Gandi Baat” – where adult scenes have been stuffed in so forcefully that it is difficult to understand whether the scenes are in the middle of the story or the story is in between the scenes.
Acting and Casting:
Ishaan Khattar has done a surprisingly good job, seeing him it felt like there is someone who is taking this script seriously. But Bhumi Pednekar’s character and her performance are so average that you will feel sorry. There are big names like Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar in this show, but the script and direction have only made them overact.
Nora Fatehi is dreaming of becoming a queen, but her love triangle troubles everyone. And Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Chunky Pandey – all have come in extended cameos but do not leave any impact.
Music and Presentation:
English songs, foreign extras, an over-stylish fashion show-like setup — Netflix has put in every frill to make the show look “royal”. But in reality, all of that is limited to scenery. The content is so weak that stretching it to eight episodes feels like a mental torture.
Major Negatives:
- Zero Storyline – The whole story could have ended in one episode.
- Forced adult scenes – A new intimate drama in every episode.
- Poor acting – Even the big actors were forced to overact unwillingly.
- Logic violated – Royal family in debt but lifestyle super rich!
- LGBTQ+ angle – Forced in, did not seem organic at all.
My rating: 1/5
That too only for Ishaan Khatter’s acting and the set design of the palace. If you are thinking of watching it with family, then forget it – avoid watching it alone. And even if you get it for free, don’t watch it.
Final Words:
“The Royals” is a royal waste. If you liked movies like “Khoobsurat” which had the perfect blend of royalty and modern romance, then stay away from this series. Netflix has really reached its lowest point this time.
If Netflix is there then it is possible… but it is also possible not to watch this.
