“So guys… Tom Cruise has returned once again to the franchise whose name itself sends a wave of action and spy thriller adrenaline rushing through the body – Mission: Impossible!
And this time it’s the biggest, longest and probably the most emotional part – Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One. So does this movie match the legendary status of the series or has Mission Impossible become Mission Boring? Let’s find out in this video!
Story Template:
“This time Ethan Hunt i.e. Tom Cruise has to save the world not from the world… but from an AI villain that has emerged from the digital world. Yes, the main villain of the film is an ultra-intelligent, rogue AI named ‘Entity’ that has the power to hack everything from the world’s nuclear system to every digital form.
The story continues from where the previous film left off, so if you have not seen the previous MI movies, then understand that it can be a headache. This movie feels less like an individual part and more like a complete ending.”
Screenplay and Pacing:
“The length of the film is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes and the first hour of it is spent on just setup — lots of dialogues, flashbacks, focus on Ethan Hunt’s legacy, and the revelation of the dangers of the Entity.
If you are going in with an action mindset, you might fall asleep in the first half as there are hardly any stunt scenes. But man… the movie slowly picks up in the second half.”

Action and highlight scenes:
“Now talking about the action of the movie, two scenes are really praiseworthy:
- The underwater scene with the submarine — where the scene is felt for almost 20 minutes without any dialogues, only on the basis of tension and sound design.
- The plane scene in the climax — brother, I appreciate Tom Cruise! Senior in age, but he beats even the youngsters in stunts.
But… even these two scenes did not seem very new or groundbreaking compared to the old scenes of the MI franchise. Yes, the execution was top-notch, but we have seen better than this before.”
Weaknesses of the film:
“The standards of the Mission: Impossible franchise are very high, and that perhaps becomes the biggest challenge for this film. The movie completely collapses in the first half under the pressure of justifying its own legend.
Too long expositions, slow pace and constant flashbacks take down the energy of the movie. At some points, it seems as if the movie has pressed the ‘pause’ button.”

Special Point – AI Villain:
“Making AI a villain is very relatable in today’s times. The concept of Entity is scary, but its execution did not seem that impactful. A super-smart AI that no one can see or touch – in one dialogue it was even said, ‘Fighting it is like fighting a ghost.’ But as powerful as the concept was, its impact was not felt on screen.”
Final Verdict:
“So brother… Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is a good film, but it falls a little short in comparison to its own legacy.
If you are an MI fan, you can definitely watch it for the second half. But if you are expecting pure action, you might be a little disappointed.
Tom Cruise has once again proved that age is just a number, but after watching the film I felt – now maybe this franchise should retire gracefully.
My ratings:
For Entertainment — ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
For Action Execution — ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
For Innovation — ⭐⭐ (2/5)
Total — 🔥 3.3 out of 5 stars!”
Bonus Tips:
- There is no end-credit scene in the film, so there is no need to sit in the theatre.
- If you have FOMO then definitely watch it, but go with your expectations set.
- If you watch it in IMAX then you will get full enjoyment of the visuals and sound.
