Black, White & Grey – Love Kills | A series based on India’s most unsolved murder mystery | Sony Liv Review

A simple question – which is India’s most disturbing horror film? The answer would probably be Welcome Home. But now the same director has come up with another cinematic tadka, after watching which you will ask yourself – was all this real?

The recently released web series Black, White & Grey: Love Kills on Sony Liv is not just a crime thriller. It is an experience that will tear apart the boundaries of your thinking. The series is of 6 episodes, and every episode has a new shock.

Whose story is this?

The story is about a Desi serial killer who is accused of brutally killing four different people. But the twist is – these four victims are completely different from each other:

  • A teenage girl, daughter of a big politician – whose body has not been found till date.
  • A simple taxi driver – no one knows how he reached Nagpur from Hyderabad.
  • A senior police officer – whose brain was found scattered on the road, glasses were still on his eyes.
  • An innocent goat herder – whose phone still has a live video of the murderer.

And then comes the fifth person…alive. The same serial killer, who comes in front of the camera and says – “I am innocent.”

A presentation like never seen before

The biggest strength of this show is its documentary style presentation. Real CCTV footage, emotional interviews and monologues have been presented in such a way that you will feel like you are watching a special investigation show on a news channel. And not only this – there will be such a cliffhanger at the end of every episode that you will want to watch the next episode without stopping.

Real or fake? That’s the game!

The biggest masterstroke of the series is to show the blur between “real and fiction” which we often ignore. Is that boy really the murderer? Or is his statement showing you the other side of the truth? In this world of black and white, this series brings out the ‘grey’ – where the line between right and wrong becomes blurred.

Acting and Cast

Kota Factory fame Mayur More has played such a role in this show that you will be wondering whether he is an actor or a part of the real case. Actors like Palak Jaiswal, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Anant Jog and Devendra Bhojani have brought life to the show with their acting.

Nagpur’s real connection

If you are from Nagpur, you will find this show even more real as it will feature many locations like Hinganghat, Butibori, Kamathi, Tajbagh which are directly connected to the city. The story is inspired by a real murder case that took place in Nagpur in December 2020, in which a 22-year-old boy goes missing and reappears after two years – with a shocking truth.

What is special in this show?

  • 6 Episodes × 40 mins: Gripping every minute
  • CCTV footage + interviews of real cases
  • The serial killer himself on camera – will shock you
  • A show that creates a new format by combining documentary, thriller and drama

Rating:

Considering the content, presentation and performance, 4.5 stars out of 5 from me. If there was a little more BGM and tighter editing, then it would have got 5 stars.
