In 2015, Thalapathy Vijay gave the last flop film of his career, the name of that film was Puli. A fantasy drama made on a huge budget. Which could barely recover its cost. After this film, Vijay realized, he made some changes in his way of working. After this, he became such a superstar that no one could stand in front of him. It started with the film Theri released in 2016, which was directed by Atlee Kumar. Since then, none of Vijay’s films have flopped at the box office. After 8 years, the same Atlee Kumar has made a remake of Vijay’s Theri in Hindi as a producer, the name of this film is Baby John. There are many ways to remake films. Some filmmakers remake the film in a spiritual way, some tell the same story in their own way and some filmmakers copy the films scene by scene in the name of remake. Baby John is the third way of remake. A story is a story, even the makers have not changed the names of some characters in the film. For example, the main villain’s son’s name in Theri is Ashwin and in Baby John, it’s Ashwin. If you haven’t seen Theri, we’ll tell you the story of Baby John in brief. Satya Varma is a policeman who lives with his mother in Mumbai. He gets married and has a daughter. In the middle of all this, he gets into a fight with the city’s famous gangster Nana Ji. To take revenge on Nana Ji, he ruins Satya’s entire family. Satya and his daughters somehow escape from this. Now Satya pretends to be dead to save his daughter. He changes his name and appearance and shifts to another part of the country. But Nana Ji comes to know about this. He calls Satya and threatens him again. Now Satya has two options, either he keeps running away from Nana for the rest of his life to save his daughter’s life or he kills Nana and ends this whole story. You know which path a Hindi film hero will choose. Satya also chooses the same path. Baby Jaan is a proper masala entertainer. The film has many well-choreographed action sequences. There is dialogue, comedy, and romance, but what is not new, is that too when There is available on OTT platforms in many languages. Recently, a film by Karthik Iron was released, Shehzada. Perhaps you do not remember the name of this film, because no one knew when this film came and when it went. Shehzada was the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s smash hit Ala Vaikuntha Puram Lo. Ala Vaikuntha Puram Lo is a film that tells the country that a star named Allu Arjun has been born. On top of that, that film was lying on the YouTube platform, Which had been watched in large numbers. The film which people have already watched in their favorite language. Why would anyone watch it again?
The makers of Baby John might not have thought about this. However the selection of actors plays a very important role in any film. But in a remake, this is probably the biggest decision. With which actor should this film be made? The makers of Baby John have made a mistake here too. Varun Dhawan is a serious actor and has done different types of roles in his career. His work in Baby John is fine. But the audience will repeatedly compare him with Thalapathy Vijay in this role. Where Varun will lose because he has not yet reached that point of his career. Where he does anything and people consider it his style. Varun does not have that stardom and power yet. And there is no fault of his in this. This thing bothers you again and again in the film. While watching Baby John, there was a moment when I felt that director Kallis had gone into God mode. That moment comes before the climax. The most sorry scene and dialogue of this film has gone to Rajpal Yadav. Rajpal has done comic roles in hundreds of films. But in this film, he gets a chance to say that comedy is a serious business. This is the most paisa vasool scene of the film. Another flaw of Baby John that I found was that some scenes could have been easily removed because they did not add anything to the plot. They were just increasing the length of the film. They were kept in the film only because those scenes were also a part of the original film. If the length of the film was reduced a little, the matter would have become crisper. By the way, Baban is not a boring film. You will get all the masala here which you have already tasted. But this is also the biggest flaw of this film. The most interesting thing that comes to mind while watching Baby John is that Atlee did not bring Tamil cinema to Mumbai. He has taken Mumbai to Tamil Nadu. The treatment of this film is completely like that of a South Indian film. If you like to watch that kind of over-the-top action thriller film, then you will like Baby John. Rest this was our opinion, what do you think, do tell us in the comment box.
